Typical programme
Weather permitting you will have practical sessions in the morning followed by some classroom (generally sitting in a field some place) learning the theory side of things, weather patterns, aerodynamics, rules of the air, landing and takeoff sites and procedures, air safety, etc...
Over the first couple of days you will learn to fill your sail and control it on the ground before running down the hill taking off and doing mini flights a few meters off the ground while learning to land safely. From here once you have all under control you will progress to short solo flights taking off from mountain pastures and landing in the valley. Although you are now flying solo you will always be in contact with a qualified instructor by walkie-talkie radio, talking you through the whole process until you land softly back to earth.
By the end of the week you will be capable of flying solo on most of the local sites , though it is advisable to fly with an experienced pilot for sometime afterwards!
To give you the steam power to soar with the eagles, each day will start with the classic Fish&Pips breakfast and will include a buffet style lunch, picnic or BBQ, and close with a hearty but tasty meal at or around the chalet.
